About Us
Roeder Implement
has been selling and servicing new and used tractors,
combines and farm equipment since 1946.
Harry Roeder and
his brothers Floyd, Kenneth, Orville and Clarence were
partners in many ventures as Roeder Brothers in Bellevue, IA
starting in the late thirties. They painted and shingled
barns in the early years. They were involved with a Pillsbury
farm feed business as well as a portable feed grinding
business. In 1946 they secured the Case farm equipment
franchise, later they dropped the Case line and took on the IH
truck and agricultural franchises. They had a contract with
the U.S. government to utilize a ferry boat to deliver workers
from Bellevue to the Savana Ordinance Depot in Illinois.
After Lock & Dam 12 was built in Bellevue the workers walked
across the dam to the Illinois side of the Mississippi and
then were transported to the ordinance depot with buses owned
by the partnership. They were in the used car business during
World War II. At one time they owned three commercial
buildings on the main street in Bellevue. Cessna airplanes
were sold for a period of time. In the fifties they expanded
into a construction business installing water and sanitary
sewer systems. In 1955 they purchased a farm and began
trading livestock on farm equipment.
By 1956 Floyd and
Harry were the remaining partners. They expanded the
International Harvester agricultural franchise by adding a
second store in Dubuque and erected a new building at 2550
Rockdale Road in 1957. Floyd managed the Bellevue store while
Harry managed the new Dubuque franchise. In 1972 the
partnership was dissolved to allow the two families to proceed
separately. In that year Harry took on his son James as a
partner in the Dubuque business now renamed as Roeder
Implement. In 1976 James purchased his father’s interest in
the business.
In 1986 Roeder
Implement acquired the Kubota and Honda outdoor power
franchises to strengthen its presence in the consumer
equipment business.
In 1995 The Sieg
Machine Shop located at 515 White Street was purchased and
renamed Roeder Machine Co. That business is operated out of
part of a building owned by Dubuque Supply Company.
In January 1997
the John Deere Consumer and Commercial Products franchise was
acquired by purchasing the Air Cooled Engines dealership. At
that time the consumer products were moved from Roeder
Implement and merged with the John Deere line at Cedar Cross
Road in the building leased from the former owner of Air
Cooled Engines. This new venture was named Roeder Outdoor
Power.
In August of 1998
Roeder Outdoor Power moved into its new facility at 2580
Rockdale Road on property contiguous to Roeder Implement.
This 31,200 square foot building has an 18,200 square foot
main floor and 13,000 square foot second floor warehouse.
Currently Roeder
Outdoor Power is the largest John Deere Riding Lawn Equipment
dealer in the United States.
